Cycle friendly Cairngorms

By providing transport choices that support a shift to active travel and reduce carbon emissions through less reliance on private cars, this project is improving access to cycling for communities in the National Park.
Through Cairngorms 2030, this project is introducing solutions to ensure cycling is an option for residents and visitors, and encourage more people to try cycling for everyday journeys. This includes:
- Developing a series of community loan bike hubs.
- The provision of secure cycle parking.
- A network of e-bike chargers.
- A range of skills classes to boost confidence and offer new opportunities for employment.
Our team works closely with other transport officers and projects to develop an integrated approach to sustainable and active travel, making it easier for people to use different modes of transport for longer journeys.
By providing solutions to the obstacles that stop people from choosing to cycle, this project addresses the lack of transport choice that many rural residents face as well as removing barriers such as transport poverty. This project also supports local businesses, organisations and community groups through loan cycles and grants to support local solutions to transport issues and social exclusion.
