Outdoor Dementia Resource Centre

Two older women smile and examine some berries

A UK first, Alzheimer Scotland’s Outdoor Dementia Resource Centre at Badaguish is enabling people living with dementia and their families and carers to experience the mental and physical benefits of nature.

Through Cairngorms 2030, we are supporting the centre to develop and grow as they explore new and creative ways of engaging people living with dementia with the outdoors, with everything from gardening to cycling, arts and music. With an impressive outreach programme, the centre is building a community of people, including artists, facilitators, outdoor instructors and rangers, who are dedicated to ensuring our natural heritage can be enjoyed by and is accessible to all.

By unlocking access to nature for a group of people who can be vulnerable to social isolation and loneliness, this project helps people living with dementia to experience the mental and physical benefits of spending time outdoors. Not only this, but it is also providing vital community and peer support between participants, their carers and families.
