Have your say on safer travel in Aviemore
The Cairngorms National Park Authority is calling on Aviemore residents, business owners and land managers to help design the next phase of an exciting project to make it easier, safer and more enjoyable to get around whether walking, cycling, using a wheelchair or pushing a buggy.
Over the past few years, the Park Authority has been working closely with the local community to develop ideas for improving active travel routes in and around Aviemore. Building on this feedback, the Park Authority is working with consultants Mott MacDonald, Transport Scotland and Highland Council to progress detailed design proposals for a safe, accessible route linking Aviemore town centre with the primary school, Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital and the industrial estate.
A community drop-in event will be held at The Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore on Thursday 11 December from 2pm to 7pm. Everyone is welcome to come along, view the visualisations, meet the project team and share their ideas.
More than 600 people living and working in Aviemore have already shared their thoughts through consultations held in 2022 and 2023, helping to shape the emerging designs. The project team is now ready to share the latest proposals and gather community feedback before moving towards the construction phase.
Colin Simpson, Head of Visitor Services and Active Travel at the Cairngorms National Park Authority, said: “Over the past few years, hundreds of members of the Aviemore community have helped shape these exciting proposals to make getting around more wheelchair, walking and cycle friendly. We’d want to hear from everyone again to help us design the finer details ahead of the construction phase.
“I’d urge all Aviemore residents and businesses to come to the event on 11 December or complete the online feedback form to help decide the detail on this new route that will transform a busy part of the town.”
For those unable to attend in person, feedback can also be shared through a short survey on this page of the Park Authority’s website. Further details of the proposals can also be accessed at this link: https://cairngorms.co.uk/taking-part/consultations/active-communities-consultation
This project is part of the Cairngorms 2030 programme, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
