Badenoch: The Storylands

The Badenoch: The Storylands brand is a legacy of the Badenoch Great Place Project, which aimed to highlight Badenoch as an area rich in heritage, promote key attractions and features of interest, and deliver a great visitor experience. The project aimed to ensure a wide range of people were more directly involved in caring for and presenting the areas heritage through a sustainable partnership of organisations and local communities.

As the landscapes here have weathered the storms, so too have traditional tales passed down through the generations of fabled events, colourful characters and controversy.

Oftentimes these stories demonstrate the deeply held connection between people and place, kept alive through conversation, communities and, here in the Cairngorms, ceilidhs.

The stories we tell about the past can tell us a lot about the present, which is why in a bid to bring the stories of Badenoch to life the Park Authority supported and helped to fund a group of local historians, heritage enthusiasts, musicians and storytellers to develop an app called Badenoch: The Storylands.

Discover the hidden histories and archaeological gems of the area as you take the same paths that cattle raiders and kings traversed, listen to the iconic sounds of traditional waulking groups and music inspired by the local rivers and landscapes and soak up local recommendations that will take you off the beaten track, with options by foot, bike or car.
