National Parks Week

27th July 2009

A number of events are taking place in the Cairngorms National Park over the next few days during the sixth National Parks Week.
The week celebrates and raises awareness of the special qualities of the UK’s 14 National Parks.

The world’s first National Parks were set up in America in the 1860s when the government saw the need to protect wilderness areas from exploitation and make them available for all to enjoy.

2009 sees the 60th anniversary of the Act which enabled the creation of National Parks in England and Wales and paved the way for the National Parks (Scotland) Act 2000 that created Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park in 2002 and the Cairngorms National Park in 2003.

Details of all of events taking place in the Cairngorms National Park during National Parks Week can be found by logging on to the CNPA website here .
