Update on lynx
9th January 2025
The Park Authority welcomes the news that two lynx, suspected to have been illegally released in the Cairngorms National Park, have been successfully trapped. Experts from The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), working with Police Scotland, humanely trapped the cats overnight. The lynx are now being cared for in quarantine facilities at the Highland Wildlife Park before being transferred to Edinburgh Zoo.
We are grateful for the efforts of RZSS, Police Scotland and other partners in acting so swiftly. The Park Authority will continue to work with the police to establish the full circumstances of how the animals came to be in the woods.
We again want to take this opportunity to condemn the illegal release of wild animals in the strongest possible terms and would urge anyone with information on the release of these lynx to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2179.
