Cairngorms Voices by Ann Vastano

Ann was born in Bowmore, Islay where she spent her formative years. The family moved to Rothiemurchus Estate where her father was farm manager and these early years of immersion in some of Scotland’s most beautiful wild landscapes would prove pivotal inspiration.  Ann studied at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen. After marrying she moved back to Badenoch at the High Range, Aviemore where she settled for 25 years bringing up family and working from her studio where creating art has been a constant. Looking for a change of pace and scene the Vastano's decided to bring together their passions of art and food together with middle son Luca. As a result they opened the doors in May 2019 - to the now award winning Kincraig Art Café. Ann continues to work prolifically from her Kincraig studio and gallery where she also helps to promote and showcase other local creatives. Ann's work is collected nationally and internationally and notably hangs in the Scottish office and the Scottish parliament. Other notable commissions include a painting to commemorate the opening of the Cairngorms National Park in 2003. An exhibition of Ann's work celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Cairngorms National Park was also held at the Scottish Parliament in 2013.
