Park Authority welcomes new Deer Management Initiative

12th August 2004

The decision by the Cairngorm Speyside Deer Management Group (CSDMG) to put its new deer management plan out to consultation has been welcomed by the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA).

Deer management planning has been carried out by the CSDMG for may years but in order to be more transparent and accountable, an independent consultant has been commissioned to establish a more comprehensive deer management plan.

Whilst the plan is being developed by the members of the group at their own cost, organisations such as the Deer Commission for Scotland; Scottish Natural Heritage; Forestry Commission Scotland; CNPA and both Highland and Moray councils – as well as neighbouring deer management groups – will all be consulted.

This new and inclusive approach to deer management planning allows a range of agencies and individuals to become involved in the process and the plan will be publicly available for everyone to see.
